Assessment 3 post!

MPI has been a really interesting elective. I'm really glad I decided to do this subject this semester and have learnt a lot. Blogging isn't one of my favourite things but I found learning about the links, html codes and making websites really interesting and is something that I think might be really helpful with what I do in the future. I really enjoyed designing the layout for the blog and my website - it was really fun and related more to my course and what I may want to do.
Some of these programs, like iWeb, I have used before but only quickly and now with the work that we have done with them I have gained more knowledge about them and know how to use them better. iWeb was definitely one of my favourite programs to use and that assessment was the one that I found the funnest to do.
I hadn't thought about doing the web side of design before I did this subject, I didn't think that it would be something that I would be interesting in, but maybe I was wrong, I think it may be something I might consider to do as well as my graphic design.

Ag/Vet Dinner

Ag/Vet dinner was on last night and it was an uber fun night! Was heaps cool to see everyone dressed up all pretty :)
There was a hypnotist there - I went up on stage to let him hypnotise me, I really didnt believe that it would work before I went up there. But i was sitting there with my eyes closed and I was feeling really sleepy when he was doing his talking, but i was too drunk so he told me to go sit down.
It seemed to work for some people but others it didnt, a few people just fell asleep and woke up 20 minutes later haha. But talking to some of the guys that did it, they said that they would like try to stand up while he was talking but they felt like really heavy and even if they tried to stand up they couldnt move. But once the guy told them to do something they were moving but couldnt really control it. I was really irritated that i couldnt see if it would work to me or how it would feel, although on the other hand, i'm glad i didnt get the chance to embarrass myself in front of a lot of people.
Wooo! it was fun! :)

Rss feeds

The RSS feeds are really cool in keeping up to date with some of your favourite websites. Figuring out how to put them onto my blog was good once it was explained to me, although unfortunately my website hasn't been uploaded yet because my webspace only just came back online, but I will do it tomorrow and hopefully it will work well :) Not only is this useful in this assessment, but it's also something that I will think about doing on my gmail to keep up to date with the sites that i find really interesting. Thanks for teaching me about this!! :)

My "Wife" Casey Pomeroy :)

My wife is the most amazing person ever...Today she bought me a chicken pie for lunch, although I had already eaten lunch, but its the thought that counts, and i know from experience that it is a very delicious pie :D She was supposed to go overseas for 11 months but after just 2 months she missed me too much and had to come back home to wagga to be closer to me. YAY!! this marriage is facebook official...be jealous! haha

Elephants

Elephants are cute, so I thought I'd find some fun facts for you...

1. An elephant calf often sucks its trunk for comfort
2. Elephants prefer one tusk over the other, just as people are either left or right-handed
3. Elephants use their trunk as a snorkel when swimming
4. Elephants waive their trunks up in the air and from side to side to smell better
5. An elephants' skin is an inch thick
6. Elephants flap their ears to keep cool
7. Elephants spend up to 16-18 hours per day eating
8. An elephant's trunk is the fusion of the nose and upper lip
9. Elephants' tusks grow throughout their lives
10. Elephants use their feet to listen, they can pick up sub-sonic rumblings made by other elephants, through vibrations in the ground 
11. Only one mammal can't jump... elephants! 

 

My Website (Assessment #2)

I really enjoyed creating a website and using a program (iWeb) that I dont often use. It was great to gain an understanding of a new program which can create something as cool as a website.
My Website came from my love for music, with the idea of a Benefit Concert for a specific cause. I researched benefit concerts and the first thing that came up was one for a Children's Hospital. I think this is a great cause so I decided to use my website to create an "event" that would help raise money for the Sydney Children's Hospital - Heartbeats. 
I feel that there is quite a clean look to my website, with quite a lot of text, but the amount necessary for a website dedicated to this event. I hope that the colours appeal to others as they did to me in my design. I used to youtube videos to help create a better feel for the event and the SCH. I've also used links to other relevant pages some of which would be a little more relevant if the event were actually happening.. like the ticketek link (which would if it were take you straight to the ticket buying section). I also provided the required RSS feed subscription to my blog, a counter and links to my blogger, delicious and flickr.

The only issue I'm having which I emailed Matt about is uploading onto my webspace - which apparently doesn't exist, I.T. are working on it so hopefully I will be able to get it up soon, but I will bring it in on a disk.

Cool research

For an assessment we have to do, we have to create a catalogue, gift and invitation for a fashion line, and there were ideas about craft and paper art in the design...and I found some really cool things...

Hopefully I can use these as inspiration and come up with a really cool looking design :)

Week 9 - FTP

The transfer of the files was not as hard as i thought it would be to do. It's quite a nifty little program that does such a cool thing. I didn't think that once the site was uploaded onto the web you would be able to edit it as easily as you can. It's pretty cool!! Woo!

Week 8 - iWeb, Making a website in iWeb

iWeb is a really fun way to design a website. I haven't done much website design and I think this is a good and fairly easy place to start. It gives you enough guidance to be able to understand and create a really simple straight forward site, or allows you to edit a lot of the layout and make it look really cool and interesting. I've really enjoyed the stuff I've done with it at the moment and pretty keen to keep working on making a really cool website :)

Week 7 - More html and CSS :)

The links on this blog post are really useful in being able to create a more interesting webpage through html coding. It also helped me with a bit more information about making text bold, strong, emphasized, italics, etc. and using different colours for the backgrounds behind text as well as the page background. The "everything you need to know about CSS" link is really good, it helped me better understand CSS after learning the little bit in class, there was more in depth information here that makes CSS even better. CSS is a really cool way to code as opposed to the basic html coding, I really like it.

Sorry haven't posted for a while...Week 6 - HTML

Learning how to do the html coding was really cool for me...it was the thing in this course that I was really interested in. I really like that I can now kind of understand html coding. I thought it was really weird that you could do the html coding on textedit, I thought it would have to be done on a special program. I had done a bit of html coding in school but I hadn't understood it like I do now. I'm glad I've learnt how to do this, it might help me in my job in the future, if I decided to do web design. YAY thankyou!!

I really enjoyed working on the aesthetics of my blog, with all the layouts to choose from and colours and options...seemed like too much fun for something that I am being assessed on. I got to use nice bright blues, pinks and greens with cool fonts. I like the result of the looks at the moment, although I see me sometime in the future playing around with it all again to make it look different and maybe even better.

Delicious

Delicious is an awesome way to organise my favourite and most useful web pages in a really easy way. I can also see other peoples favourite sites and things to look at and look at them myself and save that site and look at it whenever I want. I had never used this site before today, but it seems really cool and i think i'll keep using it for a longgggg time! :)

Flickr

Flickr seems like a cool way to see what people like through photos. The tagging of photos makes it easy to find photos that I am interested in and will find interesting. Being part of a group and seeing what others in the group is doing and liking is awesome! Yay for Flickr!! :D
